Chaplain

About the role

As our Chaplain, you will serve as a vital spiritual leader and compassionate caregiver within our hospital community, providing essential spiritual counseling and support to patients, families, and staff. Every day, you will provide direct spiritual, religious, and existential care, offering compassionate presence, support, and appropriate rituals to patients, families, and staff, especially during times of crisis or grief. You will collaborate with the healthcare team to advocate for spiritual needs and integrate holistic care, ensuring respect for diverse beliefs.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct spiritual, religious, and existential care to patients, families, and staff, especially during times of crisis or grief.
• Maintain accurate documentation in patient charts regarding spiritual care interventions, plans, and outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records of other spiritual care activities related to community, family, and staff care.
• Advocate for patient rights in regard to spiritual, cultural, and psychosocial values and their impact on a patient and their support system’s response to care.
• Support an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care by participating in team meetings and rounds; includes inter- and intra-departmental projects and committees as assigned.
• Provide education to patients and families about spiritual resources, advance directives, organ and tissue donation, ethics, and other spiritual issues that may arise.
• Participate in ritual, worship, and sacramental needs of patients, family, and staff.
• Provide spiritual care to staff and serve as a professional spiritual care resource, fostering a sense of spirituality in the workplace throughout the medical center.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Theology, Pastoral Care/Counseling, Divinity, OR a Master’s degree recognized by the endorser for minority religious groups (must provide letter of approval for degree from endorser).
• Clinical Pastoral Education: 4 units of CPE (1600 hours) in an accredited ACPE hospital center.
• Board Certified Chaplain APC, within 24 months of hire.

Preferred

• One (1) or more years of chaplaincy experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Pay

$34.2015 per hour
