CHAP Instructor Advanced Practitioner Provider (0.50 part-time)

This is a 0.50 FTE, part-time position with the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC), a non-profit Tribal health organization dedicated to meeting the unique health needs of Alaska Native and American Indian people living in Alaska. ANTHC partners with over 171,000 Alaska Native and American Indian people and Tribal health organizations to provide comprehensive medical services, wellness programs, disease research, rural provider training, and rural water and sanitation systems construction. Responsibilities

• Delivers classroom and clinical primary care training for Community Health Aides and Practitioners (CHA/P) using adult learning concepts and clinical facilitation skills
• Ensures training systems are results-oriented, maintain statewide CHAP standards, and provide value to the organization
• Stays current with changes in CHA program services, technologies, and policies; updates and revises training content and schedules accordingly
• Researches, analyzes, evaluates, and deploys new training materials and instructional methods
• Prepares and coordinates the development of training programs and materials
• Instructs and guides CHAs in primary medical care, preventive health practices, and healthcare administration
• Prepares, administers, and scores tests; evaluates and maintains student records; provides counseling and special help as needed
• Participates in committee and programmatic work to promote CHAP system efficiency and effectiveness
• Engages in continuing education to meet changing program needs and maintain professional skills, certification, and privileging
• Provides primary health care, including medical assessments, treatments, medicines, and procedures within scope of authority
• Documents patient care, evaluates and revises plans of care to meet individualized patient needs, and consults with collaborating physicians as needed
• Collaborates with other professionals to provide continued care outside the practice setting
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program
• Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may substitute for college education on a year-for-year basis
• Consideration may be given for candidates with five or more years as a CHP in good standing and high recommendations from an Advanced Practitioner Provider program (case-by-case basis if involved in a special mentoring program)
• Two years of mid-level health provider experience in primary care (non-supervisory)
• An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may substitute for experience
• Certification in ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) or equivalent for Nurse Practitioners, or NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) for PA-Cs

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree with a Family Practice focus
• Advanced Practitioner Provider experience in primary care, preferably in remote Alaska with CHA/Ps
• Alaska License

Additional Requirements

• May require specific technical certifications
• Must pass and maintain credentials and required medical standards of ANMC and external agencies
• May require DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) certification
• May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule
• Working conditions include ANMC accredited campus and Village Health Clinic settings, with potential exposure to infectious diseases
• Occasional travel to remote locations by boat, snowmobile, ATV, or small plane
• Provides care to all age groups: newborn (0-28 days), infant (29 days–1 year), child (1-12 years), adolescent (12-18 years), adult (18-64 years), geriatric, and maternal/neonatal
