Chairperson & Assoc/Full Professor

Lead the Department of Pharmacy Practice to support the instruction, research, and clinical mission across multiple campus locations (Lawrence, Kansas City, and Wichita), while continuing and enhancing the reputation and quality of the program. This full-time, 12-month, tenured faculty position is based in Lawrence, Kansas, and reports directly to the Dean of Pharmacy. Rank determinations are based upon qualifications, professional performance, research, and service experience sufficient to qualify for the appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

About the Role

• 50% Administration:
  • Execute University policies at the Departmental level.
  • Provide leadership and oversight in all Departmental activities, including faculty recruitment, retention, and development.
  • Adjudicate personnel matters and serve as the administrative representative for grievance procedures.
  • Oversee and enhance all Departmental resources across multiple campuses.
  • Supervise and conduct annual evaluations of faculty in teaching, research, clinical practice, and service.
  • Supervise and evaluate support staff annually.
  • Appoint adjunct faculty.
  • Collaborate with faculty to review and modify the Department’s strategic plan in teaching, research, clinical practice, and service.
  • Develop and support resources and faculty sites for School and Graduate programs through communication with the Dean and other administrators.
  • Enhance research, clinical, and educational relationships with allied units within the University and external institutions.
  • Prepare and submit the annual Departmental budget in collaboration with the Office Manager.
  • Manage Departmental funds in accordance with School and University budgetary guidance.
  • Initiate annual fundraising efforts to support Departmental needs.
  • Complete University-required trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Pharmacy.
• 20% Teaching:
  • Teaching responsibilities (up to 2 credit hours per academic year) will be determined based on department needs, including coordination and instruction of didactic courses in the Pharm.D. program.
  • Hold regular office hours and advise/mentor professional degree-seeking students.
• 20% Research:
  • Conduct ongoing research and scholarship, defining a research focus and seeking internal/external funding.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare disciplines.
  • Publish and present research in peer-reviewed journals of national or international stature.
• 10% Service:
  • Support the profession, University, School, and Department through involvement in committees and organizations.
  • Hold leadership roles in professional organizations and serve on local, state, and national committees.
  • Advise student organizations and referee for granting agencies, journals, and professional associations.

Requirements

• Terminal degree in pharmacy (PharmD from an ACPE-accredited school; for pre-2000 graduates, a BS degree is considered terminal).
• Licensed to practice pharmacy in Kansas or eligible to obtain licensure within six months of employment.
• For appointment at the rank of Associate Professor:
  • Established record of research and service (peer-reviewed publications, external funding, and/or presentations).
  • Strong record of teaching and mentoring professional degree-seeking students, graduate students, or pharmacy residents.
  • Documented leadership experience in developing and enhancing relationships with community partners.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
• For appointment at the rank of Full Professor:
  • All qualifications for Associate Professor.
  • Demonstrated excellence in research, service, and teaching.
• Eligibility to work in the U.S. by the effective date of the appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as an academic department chair.
• Experience with academic budgeting.
• Experience managing a team across multiple locations.
• Experience leading in a newly unionized academic environment.
