About the role

The University of California, Irvine (UCI), in partnership with Korn Ferry, announces a national search for the Chair, Department of Plastic Surgery. The Chair, Department of Plastic Surgery reports to the Dean of the School of Medicine and is responsible for the effective management of all administrative and operational processes of the Department, providing comprehensive clinical services while supporting the teaching, educational, and research missions of the Department, School of Medicine, and University.

Responsibilities

  • Build upon the strong foundation established by the Department's founding Chair, leveraging the talents of its faculty, staff, trainees, and researchers to further strengthen the Department's academic, clinical, and research programs and enhance its national reputation.
  • Provide comprehensive expertise across the full spectrum of plastic and reconstructive surgery, including aesthetic, craniofacial, microsurgery, hand, burn, cancer-related reconstruction, lymphedema, peripheral nerve, brachial plexus, and gender-affirming surgery.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration to advance innovation through research and clinical care.
  • Support the UCI Plastic Surgery Residency Program, which has been training residents since 1969 and offers integrated residency positions since 2005.
  • Collaborate with investigators across the School of Medicine and the Samueli School of Engineering on translational research projects focusing on regenerative medicine, adipose-derived stem cells, wound healing, scar control, cartilage engineering, biomaterials, and medical device development.
  • Ensure the Department's academic, clinical, and research programs align with the mission of the UCI School of Medicine: Discover. Teach. Heal.

Requirements

Qualifications for the position include:

  • A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • A current California Medical License.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in plastic surgery, including clinical practice, teaching, and research.
  • Experience in building and leading a successful academic plastic surgery program.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to manage a diverse team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, trainees, and researchers.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other academic and clinical departments.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $300,000 - $350,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
