About the role
This is a great opportunity for a dynamic surgeon-leader to guide an established, high-volume Department of Surgery. Operating in a closely balanced clinical and administrative leadership role, you will drive surgical innovation and mentorship, fully backed by the extensive resources of Ascension Saint Agnes.
Responsibilities
- Cultivate an inclusive, highly collaborative relationship with OR Nursing, Anesthesia, and Emergency Medicine to resolve scheduling, staffing, and equipment challenges while maximizing surgical facility utilization.
- Provide overall administrative direction for the Department of Surgery, managing capital and operational budgets, executing strategic growth plans, and aligning departmental performance with hospital leadership goals.
- Lead comprehensive clinical quality initiatives—focusing on surgical infection prevention, safety protocols, and clinical pathways—while establishing a standardized, health-system-wide approach for introducing cutting-edge surgical technologies.
- Oversee all clinical and educational activities, partnering with the Residency Program Director to maintain full ACGME accreditation while actively mentoring, evaluating, and developing surgical faculty and residents.
Requirements
Required Credential(s): Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Maryland Board of Physicians obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Optometry (OD) or Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) required.
Qualifications
Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery preferred; candidates with other subspecialty training or a strong general surgery background are welcome to apply.

$407,359 – $612,013 per year
