Certified Surgical Technician (CST)

Surgical First Assistant Role Overview: Collaborates with surgeons and healthcare teams to perform safe surgeries, providing intraoperative support and technical assistance to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities include: Assisting with patient positioning, skin preparation, visualization, hemostasis, wound closure, dressing application, and drainage system securing. Role varies based on surgical specialty and needs, functioning as a First Assistant, Circulator, or Surgical Technologist. Qualifications: Certification as a Surgical First Assistant from an accredited agency, graduate from an accredited Nursing or Surgical Technology program, current RN licensure in LA if applicable, and BLS certification. Must be available within 30 minutes when on call. Preferred Skills: CNOR certification and two years of perioperative experience are desirable. Physical Demands: Requires good physical health, ability to stand, sit, walk long periods, lift at least 50 pounds, and work in a moderate noise environment, with physical effort involving reaching, handling, talking, hearing, seeing, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, and crawling.
