About the role
The Surgical Technician at CHI Health Saint Elizabeth will prepare the operating room and surgical team for various procedures, ensuring a sterile environment and contributing to the patient's healing process.
Responsibilities
- Aids in the orientation of new personnel and assists in orienting new associates as needed.
- Plans and prepares necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge and technical skills in the care and use of surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Performs skin preparation as directed.
- Positions and drapes the patient for the appropriate procedure.
- Handles medications passed to the sterile field under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
- Completes accurate instrument, sponge, and sharp counts with a Registered Nurse.
- Performs scrub duties such as handling of instruments, holding retractors, cutting sutures, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Assists in transporting blood products and specimens to and from the laboratory.
- Ensures proper care of specimens from surgical procedures.
- Performs all work in accordance with accepted standards of sanitation, safety, and proper handling techniques, including sterilization and high-level disinfection procedures.
- Assists the Registered Nurse as directed.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Current Surgical Technician certification required.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Previous Operating Room experience preferred.
Qualifications

Pay
The posted compensation range is $23.11 - $34.38 per hour, reflecting the lowest and highest pay CommonSpirit Health believes it might offer for this position, based on current circumstances.
Schedule
The Surgical Technician works 80 hours per week on a rotating on-call schedule, Monday through Friday.
