Certified Surgical Tech (CST) - Weekend Incentive Program

Abrazo West Campus is a 200-bed acute care hospital offering advanced services, including the da Vinci Xi surgical platform, Level I Trauma Center, Loop-X system, orthopedics, obstetrics, and cardiovascular care in the West Valley communities.

About the role

Certified surgical technician providing intra-operative support. Assists the surgical team by acting as the primary scrub person who handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures. Maintains constant vigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field. Prepares operating rooms for surgery, using appropriate techniques. Participates in department performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the written individualized Physician Preference Card for the surgical procedure.
• Coordinates with circulating nurse to provide supplies, equipment, and instruments for designated surgical procedures.
• Conducts and documents sponge, instrument, and needle counts.
• Utilizes a working knowledge of current surgical scrub technology and medical terminology.
• Coordinates with circulating nurse to continuously assess case progress and patient’s safety.
• Properly operates and documents operation of all equipment utilized.
• Adheres to safety precautions during use of electrosurgical units, lasers, and any surgical equipment.
• Handles and labels specimens.
• Performs other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Completion of formal education/training to obtain a Certification as a Surgical Tech.
• Experience: Knowledge and experience in operative procedures, equipment, and instrumentation.
• Licensure/Certification: Certification as a Surgical Tech. CPR.
• Special Skills: Excellent customer service skills and basic computer skills.

Preferred Requirements

• Experience: Two years of hospital surgical experience.
