Responsibilities

  • Assists surgeon performing surgical procedures in the Labor and Delivery Operating Room by handling surgical instruments, managing perioperative counts and participating in surgical time-outs
  • Utilizes principles of aseptic technique in creating and maintaining a sterile field
  • Plans and provides equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs
  • Assists the Registered Nurse with Obstetrical Circulating Duties
  • Adheres to hospital safety policies and practices universal precautions
  • Contributes to the smooth operation of the Labor and Delivery Unit
  • Orders and stocks unit supplies
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development
  • Provides a safe environment for the patient during their perioperative experience
  • Supports patient teaching including family and/or significant others
  • Other duties, as appropriate to scope

Qualifications

  • Current Surgical Technologist licensure by state of Virginia (required)
  • 1 year experience as Surgical Technologist (preferred)
  • Graduate of Surgical Technologist Program (preferred)
