Certified Substance Abuse Counselor
About the role
Substance use counselor will assist patients through medically assisted treatments and offer techniques for handling opioid addiction. The counselor conducts individual and group sessions to assist with crisis management and coping strategies, evaluates patients’ progress during counseling, and collaborates with doctors, nurses, and other counselors to help patients achieve overall outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Familiarity with the 12 Core Functions of Counseling
- Provide individual and group counseling services; direct service hours at regularly scheduled intervals; coordinate all services throughout treatment
- Complete bio-psychosocial assessments
- Conduct individual initial assessment and evaluation interviews for service eligibility determination
- Develop aftercare plans and discharge plans
- Facilitate, establish, and review with each patient the initial treatment plan
- Ensure accurate and current clinical records are maintained in accordance with Federal and State Regulations governing NTP clinics
- Other related duties as determined by supervisor
Requirements
- Current addiction/substance abuse certification (CAC, CADC I certification or above) is required
- Previous experience working with chemically dependent individuals
- Must demonstrate a positive, non-judgmental, and accepting attitude toward patient population
- Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screen
