About the Role

Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer issues and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy, etc.) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied, etc.). Develops strong relationships with most valuable customers.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy.
  • Review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
  • Utilize pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring information is entered correctly.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
  • Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies and procedures related to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Strictly adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required.
  • Assist customers in locating over-the-counter (OTC) products.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require the personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians.
  • Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third-party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Perform other clerical duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
  • Lead Pharmacy Department inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain knowledge of Company asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs.
  • Assist and support the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in analyzing and improving pharmacy financial, customer service, and inventory performance data; review Rx KPIs with Store Manager and Healthcare Supervisor.
  • May assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including collecting and properly labeling blood/urine samples from patients and coordinating clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
  • Assist the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
  • Support the execution of the Pickup program.
  • Assist with exterior and interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies and is clean, neat, and orderly.
  • Coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in the correct use of processes and tools to drive efficiency within the pharmacy.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures; maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
  • One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
  • Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy, Health System Pharmacy locations, or where this role is covered under a collective bargaining agreement).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Basic math skills (counting, measuring, and weighing medications).
  • Basic level PC skills (e.g., start-up and shut-down of computer, use of mouse, switching between programs, saving files, printing, and accessing information online).
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.

Training & Personal Development

  • Maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated training program and/or state-required certification/registration.
  • Attend training and complete PPLs requested by the Manager.
  • Acquire continuing education credits.
  • Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including staying updated on the latest news and developments.

Pay

Salary Range: $20.5 - $27.5 / Hourly
