Certified Senior Medical Assistant - Primary Care (Baytown)
About the role
The Certified Senior Medical Assistant - Primary Care position at Houston Methodist Primary Care Group is responsible for providing comprehensive medical support to patients under the supervision of a physician. This role requires a minimum of five years of medical assistant experience with a focus on managing highly complex, chronic disease cases.
Responsibilities
- Pre-visit planning and documentation
- Assessment and documentation of vital signs, chief complaints, and medical/social histories
- Medication review and administration
- Follow-up with patients to ensure compliance with recommendations and appointments
- Coordination with hospital, ED, consulting physicians, and community resources
- Reporting observations and conditions to supervising physician or nurse
- Performing routine tests such as EKG, rapid strep, urinalysis, and urine pregnancy tests
- Cleaning and sterilizing exam and treatment rooms, as well as supplies and equipment
- Providing care coordination and patient education
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Five years of medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline
- A certified medical assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA, or Registered Medical Assistant, along with BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA) certification
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English
- Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers
- Knowledge of medical practice and care of patients, including assisting with examinations, diagnostic, and treatment procedures
- Ability to develop and maintain clinical quality assurance to ensure accurate medical records
- Proven ability to solve problems, use good reasoning and judgment
- Proficiency in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes
- Continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements
