About the Role

The Research Nurse is responsible for implementing and managing oncology clinical research projects across the Mount Carmel Health System (MCHS). Ensures high-quality care to individuals involved as research participants in clinical trials in accordance with federal regulations, good clinical practice guidelines, and Mount Carmel Institutional Review Board (IRB) policies and procedures. Acts as a liaison with outside organizations related to research activities and develops and leads oncology research activities that meet Mount Carmel Oncology Service Line accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the planning and implementation phases of the protocol-specific course of treatment in the appropriate clinical setting.
  • Coordinates education of all stakeholders for new clinical trials/treatments as appropriate.
  • Screens and enrolls patients into appropriate clinical trials.
  • Provides care management and coordination of patient's care to ensure compliance with protocol requirements.
  • Coordinates care between the physician, Mount Carmel, and the appropriate study sponsor.
  • Provides direct patient care in the outpatient setting; completes appropriate patient assessments in the inpatient setting as required by the protocol.
  • Manages all elements of data collection and submission, including query resolution according to federal/sponsor requirements.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
  • CITI training completion required.
  • Minimum of five years of oncology clinical nursing experience; demonstrated experience in the clinical research setting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and data management requirements for clinical studies.
  • Proven ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to collect and assimilate data into meaningful information for planning purposes, and to perform basic analysis and present data in an organized and understandable format.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work under strict deadlines.
  • Familiar with principles of adult education, ability to present ideas one-on-one as well as in large group settings.
  • Ability to travel between Mount Carmel facilities and physician offices.
