Certified/Registered Medical Assistant - Matthews

We are looking for a part-time Clinical Assistant in our Matthews office. The schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday morning, and Friday.

About the role

Responsible for providing and coordinating orthopedic patient care which includes performing routine office procedures and testing, participating in patient teaching, completing triage (telephone calls, voice mail, fax), and communicating effectively with others. This role assists the physician or mid-level provider in the delivery of patient care.

Responsibilities

• Updating clinical notes in electronic medical systems
• Completing phone triage (gathering pertinent facts, assessing patient health status, acting as liaison between patient and provider)
• Casting and bracing
• Performing routine office procedures
• Providing patient education
• Assisting with patient examinations, treatments, and in-office procedures
• Cleaning and sterilizing rooms and equipment after each encounter
• Suture/staple removal
• Assisting with injections
• Educating patients through booklets/instruction sheets prior to minor procedures
• Orchestrating administrative duties (ordering supplies, stocking rooms, responding to patient messages, prescription refill requests, filing documents, monitoring work queues in the EHR system)
• Obtaining and documenting past medical/surgical histories, vitals, patient medications, and allergies in the EHR system (Epic)
• Travel to other OrthoCarolina locations may be required

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited program for medical assistants, athletic training, or nursing or relevant experience plus certification
• Certification is required (see qualifications for details)
• Knowledge of EMR (Epic)
• Ability to triage patient telephone calls accurately and concisely
• Ability to clearly and effectively educate patients, families, and staff regarding orthopedic patient care needs
• Strong communication skills
• CPR certification

Certification must be registered/certified through one of the following national organizations:

• American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• National HealthCareer Association (NHA)
• American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
• American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)

Additional qualifications by role:

• EMTs: Emergency Medical Technician certification (national certification accepted; state certification required upon recertification)
• ATCs: Board-certified as Athletic Trainer
