Certified Prosthetist Orthotist or Certified Orthotist (CPO, CO)

About the role

Hanger, Inc., a leading provider of orthotic and prosthetic (O&P) services and products, seeks a Prosthetist and/or Orthotist to join its high-volume, collaborative clinic in Knoxville. The role involves assessing patients, formulating treatment plans, and providing comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic care. It includes collaborating with physicians, instructing patients on device use, and participating in practice management.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and examine patient needs in relation to disease and functional loss
• Select materials, make cast measurements, and model modifications
• Perform fitting and adjust prosthetic and orthotic devices
• Instruct patients on the use of prosthetic and orthotic devices
• Evaluate and address issues/problems to ensure patient satisfaction
• Provide follow-up with patients and physicians
• Train physicians and allied health care professionals
• Utilize effective materials management and quality processes
• Collaborate with physicians and case managers to review services and capabilities
• Develop and enhance business relationships to secure referrals
• Plan and implement strategies to meet revenue targets
• Provide detailed clinical notes to patient records
• Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians
• Assist other clinical staff
• Conduct reimbursement activities

Requirements

• Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC)
• A baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics, or the foreign equivalent
• A valid driver’s license and driving record within Hanger’s standards
• The ability to obtain and maintain state licensure if required
• Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy, and physiology
• Effective communication skills for oral and written presentations and reports
• Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to build professional relationships
• Organizational, time management, and planning skills
• Physical abilities to lift, walk, bend, stand, and reach frequently

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of demonstrated past experience in providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under the supervision of a certified clinician
• Active listening, reading, and comprehension skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and physicians
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Integrity and honesty in all professional interactions
