Gillette Children's is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) Certified Prosthetist Orthotist (CPO) or CO specializing in Spine, based within our hospital location. This position has no on-call or weekend requirements.

Purpose of Position

Evaluates, casts, measures, designs, fabricates, and fits all types and complexities of orthoses/prostheses for patients, ensuring a comfortable fit and a cosmetically acceptable device that fulfills prescription treatment requirements. Acts as a resource to students and individuals in residency programs.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, casts, measures, designs, fabricates, and fits orthoses/prostheses for patients of all ages according to department quality standards.
  • Provides evaluation information, including manual muscle testing (MMT) and range of motion (ROM).
  • Supplies device specifics, such as product type, style, and details.
  • Delivers teaching and education to patients and families.
  • Collaborates directly with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to determine appropriate interventions and evaluate goal achievement.
  • Makes adjustments and repairs to orthoses/prostheses using proper materials, equipment, and methods.
  • Utilizes tools and machinery common in the O&P industry to accommodate changes and improve function and comfort.

Requirements

  • Valid Minnesota O&P License. Individuals new to MN licensure may begin employment in a license-eligible status under the supervision of a licensed CO or CPO, as allowable by law, and must obtain MN license within 90 days of hire.
  • Eligibility for MN licensure requires certification from either the American Board for Certification (ABC) in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics or the Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC), and must be in good standing with the certifying board.
  • Current CPR certification (BLS through American Heart Association) required, or must obtain certification within 90 days of hire.

Pay

The hourly wage for this opportunity is $38.86/hour to $58.30/hour, with a median wage of $48.58/hour. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification, licensure, and internal equity.
