About the Role

The Certified Pharmacy Technician will assist the pharmacist in ensuring the timely and accurate provision of medications to patients. Responsibilities are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and may include unit dose dispensing, sterile and non-sterile compounding, medication packaging, inventory control, record keeping, billing, and the use of equipment and automated technology.

Mount Carmel offers an elevated compensation program for sterile compounding-trained technicians. Following completion of a standardized training program, all signed-off technicians will be approved for elevated compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a working identity with the Pharmacy Team and build upon our culture following in-depth, role-specific training
  • Prepare sterile products (including chemotherapy) using aseptic technique, in compliance with regulatory standards
  • Prepare non-sterile products (including hazardous medication), in compliance with regulatory standards
  • Repackage bulk oral medication using Parata Systems and Medical Packaging Inc robots
  • Facilitate medication dispensing via Automated Dispensing Cabinets on patient care units
  • Assist in dispensing orders/prescriptions through the pharmacy inventory system
  • Support inventory control by processing daily Pharmacy Department orders, ensuring proper stock rotation, storage, and appropriate expiration dating
  • Escalate medication and non-medication orders to the Purchasing Team
  • Assist the department with proper billing of patients and other units

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Approved Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Active registration as a Certified Technician with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy
  • Previous pharmacy technician experience is desirable
  • Effective communication skills
  • Aptitude in mathematical manipulations (ratios, proportions, multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions)
