About the Role

Kindred Hospital Louisville is a 123-bed long-term acute care hospital offering extended recovery care, including 16 Special Care Unit beds and 4 negative pressure rooms. We provide 24-hour clinical care 7 days a week, partnering with physicians to support patient wellness. The hospital is located in the Original Highlands neighborhood, near downtown, Cherokee Park, and local shops and restaurants.

This is a PRN (as-needed) position with a schedule primarily on weekends (Saturday and Sunday), 0800–1630.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medication.
• Mixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and prepares labels.
• Ensures orders are filled with correct medications and prepares unit-of-use dosages when possible.
• Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patients, computes charges, and enters data into the computer.
• Prepares intravenous (IV) packs using aseptic technique with a laminar air flow hood.
• Generates required reports, including pick IV and production reports.
• Performs backup procedures, recycles product as appropriate, and updates prep/expiration dates on recycled items.
• Prioritizes work (e.g., stats made first) and delivers IV solutions to proper locations.
• Restocks shelves, rotates stock, and properly disposes of non-recyclable solutions.
• Maintains IV refrigerator temperature logs.
• Receives and stores incoming supplies, counts stock, and updates inventory records.
• Returns medications to stock, rotates inventory, and fills requisitions from nursing floors in a timely manner.
• Calculates appropriate medication doses based on patient age (adult and geriatric).
• Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• State Certification/Licensure if required by state.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy setting preferred.
• Basic understanding of computer use in processing prescription orders, including minimum word processing skills.
• Good math and science skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with clinical staff.
• Self-motivated, self-directed, and excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and cope with stress.
• Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
• Good and regular attendance is required.
