About the Role
The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit. Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPhTs) assist the Pharmacist in medication preparation and distribution, including aseptic preparation of IV admixtures (including chemotherapy agents) and filling/distributing medications using manual and automated systems.
Responsibilities
- Aseptic preparation of IV admixtures (including chemotherapy agents) in compliance with departmental, hospital, and licensing agency standards
- Fill and distribute medications through first fill, cart fill, and/or Automated Drug Systems
- Operate hospital computer systems and interfaced pharmacy systems
- Perform specialized narcotic distribution and storeroom duties
- Prepare oral prepackage syringes and use Medication Prepackage Machines while adhering to federal prepackaging guidelines
- Process patient medication orders and billing adjustments
- Prepare stock orders and maintain adequate inventory for daily pharmacy operations
- Adhere to control and safety concepts outlined in policies, state laws, and JCAHO/DNV standards
- Comply with unit dose medication distribution system practices
- Demonstrate familiarity with generic/trade name medications and excellent customer relation skills
Requirements
- Active Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification
- Ability to obtain Tennessee State Pharmacy License within 60 days of employment
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- National certification (required)
Qualifications
- AS Degree in Pharmacy Technology or completion of an accredited Pharmacy Tech course (preferred)
- IV Training Certificate (preferred)
- 1 year of pharmacy experience (preferred)
- Computer literacy
Position: PRN (as needed), temporary standard hours at Erlanger Baroness Hospital, Chattanooga, TN.
