Certified Peer Support Specialist II
About the role
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Certified Peer Support Specialist II to join a team dedicated to providing specialized care and support to individuals with serious mental illnesses, forensic commitment, and/or addiction issues.
Responsibilities
- Supports persons served in developing communication, social skills, problem solving, and self-help skills.
- Shares recovery stories and models recovery achievements.
- Teaches problem-solving strategies and combats stigma.
- Assists patients in setting and achieving personal recovery goals.
- Trains and mentors new and current Peer Specialists.
- Facilitates educational panels and training sessions.
- Provides transportation and supports community integration.
- Assists with job placement and discharge planning.
Requirements
- At least two (2) years of documented experience working with persons with mental illness.
- Two years of experience navigating mental health, substance use, and interfacing with the criminal justice system preferred.
- Valid Texas driver license or obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Certified Peer Support Specialist by a State of Texas credentialing authority.
Qualifications
Knowledge of the recovery process, person centered care, trauma informed care. Knowledge and skill to teach and engage in basic problem-solving strategies to support individual patients in self-directed recovery. Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of mental illness and community resources necessary for independent living.

Pay
$3,649.83 - $4,149.83 per month
Schedule
Day shift, up to 10% travel, occasional overtime, and telework not available.
