Responsibilities
- Supporting others in recovery from substance use disorder
- Serving as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to recovering individuals
- Representing Pinnacle Treatment Services/Aegis in a positive and professional manner
- Demonstrating an ability to share personal recovery experiences and develop appropriate and authentic peer-to-peer relationships
- Understanding and respecting everyone's unique path to recovery
- Aiding patients in overcoming barriers to treatment and meeting basic needs to promote self-sufficiency
- Providing support, assistance, encouragement, advocacy, and modeling behavior to patients
- Assisting patients with building social skills and teaching self-advocacy skills
- Providing education on identifying and working through negative self-talk and overcoming fears
- Documenting in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) as necessary
- Offering education on wellness management and recovery skills
- Informing patients about community and natural support, life skills, and recovery-related activities
- Arranging referrals to other agencies and resources in the community
- Facilitating goal-planning sessions, accessing resources, care navigation, and one-to-one support
- Coaching and supporting clients as challenges arise from everyday activities
- Assisting clients with orientation to the program and updating the EMR as needed
- Listening attentively with respect, acceptance, and encouragement
- Lending unique insight into substance use disorders and what makes recovery possible
- Attending team meetings and completing all training courses on time
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Peer Support Certification OR certification eligible within three (3) months
- Personal Attestation of one year in recovery from substance use disorder
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
- Ability to travel up to 50% locally as needed
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science discipline from an accredited college or university (preferred)
- CPR Certification
- One (1) year of experience working in a behavioral health setting
