About the role
The Certified Peer Specialist works as part of the Intensive Residential Treatment Service team, providing care and treatment for individuals with significant mental health/psychiatric symptoms and co-occurring substance use disorders. They assist peers in recovery, develop self-advocacy skills, and provide essential expertise to the team.
Responsibilities
- Willingness to provide peer-recovery education
- Assist peers with assessing their unique strengths and abilities
- Help peers with identifying, developing, and working towards recovery goals
- Help peers with developing self-advocacy skills
- Help peers identify and access appropriate professional resources
- Provide education for team members regarding the recovery process
- Affirmative participation in care coordination meetings
- Serve as a link to community resources, teach and model client self-advocacy, and act as a community liaison/educator
- Report significant/major incidents or accidents
- Medication administration and documentation
- Adhere to data privacy practices/HIPAA
- Participate in discharge planning
- Document essential activities related to licensure, welfare, and safety
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- At least 21 years old
- Valid Driver’s License and car insurance
- Successful completion of the MN Department of Human Services approved Certified Peer Support Specialist training and certification exam
Qualifications
- A GED or high school diploma is required
- An Associate of Arts degree in one of the Behavioral Sciences or Human Services is preferred
- Demonstrate dedication to promoting recovery opportunities in the lives of peers
- Ability to communicate (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the agency
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and multitask
- Proficiency with using company technology
Skills
- Have or had a primary diagnosis of mental illness
- Be a current or former consumer of mental health services and/or experience in the field while maintaining professional boundaries
- Utilize own lived experience of recovery to inspire recovery in the lives of peers

Pay
The pay range for this position is $XX.XX - $XXX.XX per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, with flexible hours to accommodate the needs of the residents.
