Certified Peer Recovery Specialist

About the role

The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) will provide direct peer-to-peer support services to individuals with substance abuse or co-occurring disorders. As an advocate for patients, the PRS will offer experiential expertise and consultation to the multidisciplinary treatment team to promote a culture where each individual's treatment needs and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities. The PRS will draw from their personal recovery experience to inspire hope and provide support to others facing similar challenges.

Responsibilities

• Help patients develop problem-solving skills to respond to challenging experiences in recovery.
• Model effective coping and self-help strategies and techniques to individuals or groups of patients to overcome fears, anxieties, urges, and triggers.
• Assist/support patients in daily decision-making, resolution of minor problems, and crisis intervention as necessary.
• Assist patients in identifying their personal goals and objectives for recovery and sobriety.
• Support clinic staff in identifying barriers and facilitators conducive to recovery.
• Assist patients in creating their personal recovery plans.
• Meet with patients to provide advice and support in accordance with treatment plans.
• Assist/coordinate patient support groups on a regular basis.
• Help patients obtain and utilize clinic-based and community-based services that support recovery needs.
• Connect patients with community resources, encourage participation in healthy social activities, or provide other assistance as needed.
• Observe behaviors and evidence of general well-being and discuss observations with the patient.
• Assist patients in developing empowerment skills and self-advocacy.
• Ensure timely and appropriate documentation as required by company, state, and federal policy.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent with the state-required Peer Recovery certification.
• CPSW, CWF, or CFPSW certification in New Mexico (if applicable).
