About the Role

Stonington Institute, a division of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), has an immediate opening for a Certified Peer Recovery Coach. We are committed to providing quality substance abuse treatment options for adults in Southeastern Connecticut and surrounding areas. Our facilities include medical detox and residential addictions treatment for active duty and retired military service members, as well as partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment. We accept private insurance, state-funded plans, and self-pay arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinically based peer support to clients in Detox through individual and group sessions.
  • Help individuals create their own recovery paths by offering recovery-based activities focused on skill development, engagement in treatment, and discharge planning.
  • Familiarize yourself with community-based resources and assist clients in accessing appropriate aftercare planning.
  • Routinely collect and enter data specific to treatment eligibility.
  • Work collaboratively with clinicians, clients, care coordinators, family/supports, and community agencies to increase individuals’ recovery skills and support.
  • Act as an advocate for clients as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • Link clients to appropriate continuing care resources, including outpatient and MAT/MOUD programs.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Current Connecticut certification for Certified Peers through one of the state-approved certification boards.
  • Knowledge of recovery skills, including relapse prevention, coping skills, and other skills to assist individuals in obtaining a sober lifestyle.
  • Knowledge of community resources, particularly outpatient and MAT/MOUD programs.
  • Problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interface with relevant community agencies.
  • Ability to manage independent tasks in a timely manner while prioritizing client and programmatic responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage high-stress situations.
  • Understanding of the importance of family, social networks, community systems, and self-help groups in recovery.
  • Ability to understand diverse cultures and incorporate the needs of culturally diverse groups, as well as people with disabilities.
  • Understanding of the value of an interdisciplinary approach to addiction and mental health treatment.
  • Ability to help clients navigate insurance and health maintenance options.
  • Judgment, leadership, and teaching ability in the field of alcoholism, drug use/misuse, behavioral health, mental health, and trauma.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Office 365 and other technology equipment.
