About the role
Banner Estrella Medical Center is seeking a Certified Patient Care Assistant for our Med Surg Clinical Care Operations (CCO), which serves as the hub for patient management on campus. CCO provides relief staffing to clinical departments/units, bed assignment, unit staffing, house supervision, and emergency preparedness. As a Patient Care Assistant, you will deliver care to patients across multiple units (ICU, PCU, Med Surg, PACU, Medical Imaging, ED, and more) while supporting a dynamic team that includes RN House Supervisors, SWAT RNs, and the Resource Team.
Responsibilities
- Provides routine patient care to promote comfort and support the patient plan of care.
- Assists with activities of daily living, including hygiene, mobility, and nutritional support.
- Collects patient data such as vital signs, intake/output, and other delegated measurements; documents findings in the medical record.
- Recognizes and reports changes in patient status or responses to treatment to licensed professionals.
- Assists with patient transportation, specimen collection, and unit-specific procedures under supervision.
- Performs clerical duties to support efficient department operations, including transcribing physician orders, maintaining records, and ordering supplies.
- Ensures accurate documentation of admissions, transfers, discharges, and consent forms.
- Participates in unit turnover and supports OR room activities as assigned.
- Monitors and tracks equipment such as patient ID scanners and laptops to ensure availability and functionality.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers (must meet AHA curriculum guidelines with in-person skills session).
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) in the state of practice.
- Minimum 1 year of acute care nursing assistant experience.
- Skills and abilities typically attained with 1 year of medical clerical experience or prior customer service experience.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and human relations skills.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy with keyboarding skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure in Arizona.
- Recent healthcare experience.
- Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program.
Schedule
- Full-time night shifts available: three 12-hour shifts per week from 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM.
- No fixed schedule days; weekend and holiday rotations required.
Pay
- Flat-rate $1/hour weekend shift differential.
- 18% night shift differential when applicable.
