About the role
The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) provides diagnostic evaluations and therapeutic treatments to patients under supervision, aiming to enhance their functional abilities for community reintegration.
Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing treatment plans, including therapeutic exercises, adaptive techniques, and equipment training.
- Design and administer individualized therapy programs to improve strength, mobility, coordination, and cognitive skills.
- Perform environmental assessments, fabricate splints, slings, and adaptive devices as prescribed.
- Educate patients and families on self-care, energy conservation, safety, and proper transfer techniques.
- Maintain accurate patient records, participate in home assessments, and contribute to multidisciplinary team efforts.
- Administer therapy for neurological and traumatic brain injury patients, including sensor-motor and pre-vocational programs.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, resident rights, confidentiality, and community policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy.
- Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association.
- Strong supervisory, customer service, and software skills.
- Ability to make independent decisions and evaluate social situations objectively.
- Ability to interpret instructions and practice active listening.
- Adherence to safety, infection control, and ethical standards.
