About the Role

According to the prescribed policies and procedures of the organization including all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, this position provides direct care to residents, assisting with activities of daily living while encouraging and guiding them to maintain or reach the highest level of function. The role reports needs and concerns to the supervisor on duty.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and assists with all resident direct care needs and comforts of daily living, including but not limited to:
    • Lifting, turning, positioning, transporting
    • Bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, and grooming
    • Answering and responding to call lights in a timely and professional manner
    • Providing restorative care, including range of motion, ambulation, and bowel and bladder training
  • Communicates professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing, following written and verbal directions.
  • Provides exemplary customer service to residents, peers, families, managers, and visitors.
  • Reports any changes in physical or mental conditions on a timely basis.
  • Assists nurses with assigned tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Measuring and recording vitals
    • Gathering weights, measures, and other documentation on residents
    • Making beds, cleaning closets, organizing, and ensuring cleanliness of resident living areas
    • Assisting with new admissions as assigned
    • Assisting in the training and orientation of new staff as assigned
  • Adheres to Resident Rights guidelines, helps residents exercise or protect their rights, and reports complaints to the charge nurse or supervisor.
  • Documents resident information timely, accurately, and confidentially according to electronic medical record procedures.
  • Adheres to all safety and compliance policies and procedures, demonstrates proper use of equipment, and reports equipment needs or repairs.
  • Practices universal precautions, uses protective equipment, and follows infection control protocols.
  • Performs food service functions, including:
    • Preparing residents for meals, serving food, and assisting with eating
    • After-meal care, passing snacks and fresh water/ice
    • Recording food/fluid intake, noting changes in eating habits, and reporting appropriately
  • Provides additional resident care needs and comforts of daily living, including:
    • Maintaining cleanliness of resident’s room, including daily and deep cleaning
    • Engaging residents in activities of interest
    • Providing restorative nursing programs necessary to maintain activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Demonstrates and maintains a positive, professional manner, manages time efficiently, and provides leadership as a role model to promote a team approach.
  • Adheres to all policies, procedures, and terms set forth in organizational documents, including compliance, drug-free workplace, and safe work practices.
  • Completes all annual education requirements, including compliance, privacy, security, and HIPAA training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred or currently enrolled in a program to achieve preferred education.
  • Two to four years of experience preferred.
  • Good communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, and the World Wide Web.
  • Current OH State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) license or FL Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license, depending on location.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to some disagreeable conditions such as noise, odors, illness, infection, and physical contact with disruptive residents.
  • Frequent physical activities including:
    • Stooping, lifting/carrying 10-25 lbs (frequent), 26-50 lbs (frequent), 51-75 lbs (frequent)
    • Standing, pushing, pulling, walking (frequent)
    • Sitting (sometimes)
  • Moderate monetary responsibility.
  • General supervision: Employee generally operates independently, checking with supervisor when in doubt.

Schedule

Full-Time, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
