About the Role

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, this position develops students' skills and competence in nursing assistant through curriculum development, instruction, and assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers nursing assistant curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives; creates units for classroom or medical lab delivery.
  • Teaches skills and knowledge in nursing assistant, promoting a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Designs lesson plans, instructional materials, and learning activities that demonstrate the application of technical skills to everyday life.
  • Instructs students in the proper and safe use, care, and storage of tools, machines, and medical equipment.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs.
  • Maintains familiarity with district and Louisiana State standardized tests to adapt curriculum for maximum student achievement.
  • Stays current with professional knowledge and educational developments through seminars, workshops, or research.
  • Organizes and maintains accurate records for student activities, achievement, and attendance.
  • Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment; maintains inventory records and ensures equipment is in working order.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or central office administrators.

Requirements

  • Registered nurse with a current, unencumbered license.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in long-term care facility services.
  • One of the following: VTIE, CTTIE, "train the trainer" certification, or a master's degree or above in Nursing or Education.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • In-depth knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) 2003 and 2007.
  • Knowledge of PC hardware and software, data information systems, and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation for performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Physical & Mental Demands

  • Works in standard office and school building environments.

Schedule

Standard teacher work schedule as set forth in the Teachers' Contract.
