About the Role
This position functions at the full performance level as a first-line staff member responsible for providing consistent and continuous care to patients under general supervision from a Registered Nurse (RN) or direction from a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This role supports the organization's mission through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery-oriented environment, founded on respect and a commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- Two years of experience assisting in the care, treatment, habilitation, or rehabilitation of patients and/or clients who are aged, physically ill, have behavioral health diagnoses, or have intellectual or developmental disabilities in treatment facilities or community-based programs.
Applicants may substitute additional direct care experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Candidates may also substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Hospital Corpsman classifications or Health Care Specialist and Medical Services specialty codes in the health-related field on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications
- Current certificate as a Nursing Assistant from the Maryland State Board of Nursing OR successful completion of a Board of Nursing-approved Nursing Assistant training program and certification within sixty days from the date of hire, prior to performing delegated nursing tasks.
- Employees in facilities providing long-term care for the aged may be required to possess or obtain a Geriatric Aide certificate.
- Employees assigned duties requiring motor vehicle operation must possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license. Some roles may require a specific license for operating vans.
- Employees may be required to successfully complete and maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.

- Successful completion of a direct care training course or examination approved by the hiring facility prior to permanent appointment.
- Must provide a telephone number for call-in purposes.
- Subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09.
