Direct Care Asst II, CI ***REPOST***

About the Role

The main purpose of this position is to maintain a safe environment for staff and competency students/patients, who are referred to the facility by the courts. This role involves monitoring groups of competency students/patients independently, managing their behaviors, and reporting observations to the treatment team. Attainment services are provided by Attainment Specialists, and this position will support those services.

This position performs duties on a rotating day (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM) and/or night (2:30 PM – 11:00 PM) shift.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe environment for staff and competency students/patients.
• Monitor and manage behaviors of competency students/patients.
• Report behaviors and observations to the treatment team.
• Function independently while overseeing groups of students/patients.

Requirements

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience assisting in the care, treatment, habilitation, or rehabilitation of patients and/or clients who are aged, physically ill, have behavioral health diagnoses, or have intellectual or developmental disabilities in treatment facilities or community-based programs.

Notes:

• Applicants may substitute additional direct care experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
• Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Hospital Corpsman classifications or Health Care Specialist and Medical Services specialty codes in the health-related field on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with adolescents with emotional disabilities and court-involved youth.
• Experience using Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior (PMAB) techniques.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

• Must possess a current certificate as a Nursing Assistant from the Maryland State Board of Nursing OR successfully complete a Board of Nursing-approved Nursing Assistant training program and receive certification within sixty days of hire (prior to performing delegated nursing tasks).
• Employees in facilities providing long-term care for the aged may be required to obtain a Geriatric Aide certificate.
• Employees assigned duties requiring the operation of a motor vehicle must possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license. Some roles may require a specific license for operating vans.
• May be required to maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.

• Must successfully complete a direct care training course or examination approved by the hiring facility prior to permanent appointment.
• Must provide a telephone number for call-in purposes.
• Subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09.
