Responsibilities
- Ride transportation for field trips to and from school with student
- Implement and monitor seizure protocol
- Implement and monitor tube feed protocol
- Auxiliary hygiene protocol including diapering/toileting
- Awareness of alternative communication device protocol and assistance with implementation
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
Qualifications

- Works primarily with those students who are severely to profoundly limited in their ability to perform independently in terms of basic motor, sensory, self-care, medical, cognitive and/or behavior function.
- Provides responsible para-professional, clerical, and human support in assisting the classroom teacher in the management and instruction of special education students;
- Essential Functions
- Carrries out instructional plans as designated by special education teacher and the student's Individual Educational Plan (IEP)
- Maintains student training data according to prescribed procedures
- Undergoes training in prescribed medical procedures for assigned student to include such tasks as tube feeding, monitoring and medication administration
- Takes and records vital signs at prescribed intervals and as warranted
- Marks and monitors neurological and respiratory status and reports to the special education teacher and nurse when rates are outside of the identified normal range
- Recognizes when student is having a medical emergency, such as a seizure, and takes appropriate action to include first aid measures and assists with the administration of emergency medication
- Auxiliary toileting, feeding, and positioning of students
- Performs functions related to hygiene and comfort for assigned students
- Prepares, cleans, and maintains classroom, bathroom, and other areas for medical or sanitary duties
- Auxiliary medical related duties, i.e. catheterization, gastrointestinal feedings, assistive breathing devices, colostomy and ileostomy needs, both in the school setting and while transporting to and from school
- Strictly adheres to a daily schedule which regularly and systematically accounts for the student’s IEP
- Carries out behavior management programs as appropriate
- Auxiliary instructional activities (e.g., field trips, library, assembly, etc.) as directed
- Auxiliary physical movement of students from one learning environment to another
- Auxiliary clerical duties as typing, filing, and copying at the direction of special education teacher
- Auxiliary supervision and training students during free time and other non-instructional periods as directed by special education teacher
- Auxiliary maintenance of special education students' records, under the supervision of special education teacher and/or building principal
- Performs other duties as assigned by special education teacher or administration
- Participation in team meetings
- Auxiliary carry-over of related services, i.e., Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech, Adapted Physical Education, and Vision
