Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
About the Role
Villa At Great Lakes Crossing is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join their team. The CNA helps patients/residents with comprehensive and personalized health care needs under the supervision of a nurse. This position assists with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, eating, grooming, toileting, and exercising. The role is covered by a collective bargaining agreement; full-time and part-time employees are union-represented, while casual employees are not.
Responsibilities
- Provides physical support for patients/residents’ daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, grooming, transferring to/from bed, toileting, walking, standing, or exercising.
- Turns and repositions bedridden patients.
- Ensures proper resident/patient diet based on dietary restrictions.
- Measures and records food and liquid intake.
- Examines patients for open wounds, bruises, or blood in urine.
- Notes and communicates patient/resident behavior and changes in mood.
- Gathers medical supplies.
- Cleans rooms and bed linens.
- Checks and records vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rate under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Answers to patient calls and needs.
- May assist patients being transported to and from appointments.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- State Certified Nursing Assistant License/Certification.
- Current CPR certificate or ability to become certified within 90 days of employment (preferred).
Skills and Abilities
- Good collaboration and teamwork skills with nursing staff.
- Familiarity with symptoms and signs of improvement for various medical conditions.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Meets all health requirements as required by law.
- Ability to relate positively, effectively, and appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers, and facility staff.
- Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and ability to learn company applications.
Physical Requirements
- Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing, and pulling, with or without mechanical aids.
- Ability to distinguish smells and temperatures.
- Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards; adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- May be required to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergencies.
