About the Role
The CNA is a member of the community nursing team whose responsibility is to assist professional nursing personnel by delivering direct hands-on nursing care to ambulatory and non-ambulatory residents on a daily basis. The CNA is also responsible for assisting the residents to achieve the highest level of functioning while living as normal a lifestyle as possible.
Responsibilities
- Perform or assist the resident with completing Activities of Daily Living (ADL)
- Respond to residents call lights to provide maximum comfort, safety and privacy
- Transport residents by ambulation or by wheelchair to areas of community (dining room, lobby and activities)
- Report any significant findings/observations to nurse immediately
- Assist residents on admission, transfer and discharge to make a smooth transition
- Responsible for the safekeeping of residents' personal possessions
- Keep resident rooms neat and safe
- Follow proper infection control techniques
- Respect the rights of each resident, particularly privacy and confidentiality
- Re-teach resident to perform ADL skills
- Provide restorative care to prevent pressure sores, contractures, and complications
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement and ensures follow-up occurs
- Converse with resident and family; assist them on adjustment to the community
- Ensure adequate hydration and nutrition of resident; report deviations from norm to the Charge Nurse promptly
- Perform blood pressure, pulse, respirations, intake/output and weights accurately
Qualifications
- Certified and state tested as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the state employed; certificate must be active, valid, and in good standing
