About the role
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a member of the community nursing team responsible for assisting professional nursing personnel by delivering direct hands-on nursing care to ambulatory and non-ambulatory residents daily. The CNA helps residents achieve the highest level of functioning while promoting a normal lifestyle.
Responsibilities
- Perform or assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADL).
- Respond to residents' call lights to provide comfort, safety, and privacy.
- Transport residents by ambulation or wheelchair to community areas (dining room, lobby, activities).
- Report significant findings or observations to the nurse immediately.
- Assist residents during admission, transfer, and discharge for a smooth transition.
- Ensure the safekeeping of residents’ personal possessions.
- Maintain neat and safe resident rooms.
- Follow proper infection control techniques.
- Respect residents' rights, particularly privacy and confidentiality.
- Re-teach residents to perform ADL skills.
- Provide restorative care to prevent pressure sores, contractures, and complications.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement and ensure follow-up occurs.
- Converse with residents and families to assist with community adjustment.
- Ensure adequate hydration and nutrition; report deviations to the Charge Nurse promptly.
- Perform accurate measurements of blood pressure, pulse, respirations, intake/output, and weights.
Requirements
- Certified and state-tested as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of employment.
- Active, valid, and in-good-standing CNA certificate.
