About the Role
The University of Colorado College of Nursing is seeking a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) or a Certified Midwife (CM) for a 1.0 FTE, benefits-eligible position with its University Nurse Midwives (UNM) faculty practice in Aurora, CO (on the Anschutz Medical Campus). This role provides antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, wellness, and gynecological care to a select population. The position is clinically based as a healthcare provider and includes an instructor-level clinical practice track appointment within the College of Nursing.

Faculty Practice Description
UNM works collaboratively within the OB/GYN department and offers families services including individualized care, group prenatal care, childbirth education, lactation services, behavioral health services, and referrals to specialty care within the University of Colorado and UCHealth systems. UNM provides full-scope midwifery care to individuals at the Anschutz Medical Campus and inpatient care to STRIDE clinic patients. The practice serves families from many countries and strives to offer culturally appropriate care.
This position involves a faculty appointment with expected involvement in the College of Nursing. The nurse-midwife will be part of a midwifery service consisting of 19 midwives with a long and successful history within the University of Colorado system. This full-time position will work night shifts 50% of the time.
Responsibilities
- Provide full-scope care to gynecologic, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients.
- Provide care in the outpatient clinic, OBED, and intrapartum unit.
- Utilize limited obstetric ultrasound skills in the outpatient and inpatient setting.
- Attend monthly practice meetings and participate in at least one practice and/or College of Nursing committee.
- Educate healthcare team students (APPs, medical students, residents) and actively participate in student evaluations.
- Participate in practice development, promotion, and community outreach.
- Actively participate in health plan contracts and remain credentialed by the health plans.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in midwifery from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Current AMCB certification (must be obtained by date of hire).
- Current RN and APN licensures in good standing (any state) or applicable certified midwife professional license. Must obtain Colorado licensures by date of hire.
- Willingness and ability to provide full-scope contraceptive services and counseling on abortion services.
- Valid NPI number and Colorado Medicaid Provider number by date of hire.
- Completion of CAQH and all credentialing requirements prior to date of hire.
- Current BLS/CPR certification by date of hire.
- Willingness to work in a normal patient care environment with exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases.
- Willingness to work extra shifts if necessary to cover practice needs.
Qualifications
This is an open-rank position and may be categorized as follows based on experience and qualifications:
- Instructor: Master’s degree in midwifery. Current AMCB certification and RN/APN licensures.
- Senior Instructor: Master’s degree in midwifery. Demonstrated leadership in area of practice and experience collaborating with academic colleagues and students.
- Assistant Professor: Master’s degree in midwifery and a doctoral degree in nursing, midwifery, or a related area. Demonstrated leadership in area of practice and experience collaborating with academic colleagues and students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current, active DEA licensure.
- Experience working in a high patient volume and/or high-acuity patient setting.
- Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary clinical care teams.
Skills
- Exceptional independent judgment to monitor and respond to changes in a client’s condition.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and healthcare teams.
- Skilled in the use of electronic medical health records.
- Excellent knowledge of and ability to perform clinical teaching.
- Ability to effectively develop and promote practice.

Pay
- Instructor of Clinical Practice/CNM: $95,683 - $105,252 annually.
- Senior Instructor of Clinical Practice/CNM: $96,639 - $106,304 annually.
- Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice/CNM: $97,596 - $107,357 annually.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
