Job Details Description InterMed is the leading provider of obstetrical and gynecological healthcare in southern Maine and the largest Ob-Gyn practice in Greater Portland. Led by our highly trained and board-certified physicians, the Obstetrics and Gynecology team provides care and support for every stage of your life. We perform day surgeries and minimally invasive procedures at our Portland surgery center. Additional surgical services are provided at Maine Medical Center. https://www.intermed.com/obstetrics-and-gynecology InterMed is seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and patient-centered Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) to join our Women's Health team. The ideal Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) candidate is a confident and collaborative clinician who values team-based care, shared decision-making, and exceptional patient experiences. They communicate proactively, embrace interdisciplinary partnerships, and are committed to supporting women and families throughout every stage of care. A clinically skilled, patient-centered provider who thrives in a collaborative physician-led environment. This individual demonstrates strong clinical judgment, recognizes risk appropriately, and understands when escalation or physician involvement is necessary. They are experienced in providing comprehensive prenatal, labor and delivery, postpartum, and gynecologic care while adhering to evidence-based practices, established protocols, and quality standards. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, build trust with patients through education, empathy, and shared decision-making while setting realistic expectations and prioritizing safety. Reliability is essential, including consistent documentation, call coverage, patient follow-up, and effective management of clinical responsibilities within a structured medical group setting. A commitment to maternal and neonatal safety, risk management, proper documentation, and timely collaboration with physician colleagues is critical. The successful candidate values teamwork, fosters positive relationships with physicians and staff, adapts well to organizational growth and change, and practices within the appropriate scope of licensure, training, and hospital privileging requirements. Additionally, the CNM will support the strategic goals of the OB/GYN practice by helping improve patient access, continuity of care, service line growth, quality outcomes, patient satisfaction, and overall operational success. Essential Responsibilities Clinical Care Provide full-scope midwifery services, including:Preventive women's health carePrenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum careAnnual gynecologic examinationsContraceptive counseling and family planning servicesDiagnoses, monitors, and manage pregnancies, including recognition of complications and coordination of appropriate referrals for high-risk patients.Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.Prescribe medications and order diagnostic and therapeutic tests, including laboratory studies and imaging.Educate patients and families on pregnancy, childbirth, newborn care, breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, and women's health concerns.Provide counseling and emotional support for patients experiencing pregnancy loss, complications, or adverse neonatal outcomes.Facilitate and participate in group prenatal care programs utilizing the Centering Pregnancy® model. Collaborative Practice Partner closely with OB/GYN physicians to develop and strengthen a comprehensive CNM service line.Practice effectively within an integrated physician-CNM care model.Foster strong interdisciplinary relationships through timely communication and collaborative decision-making.Escalate clinical concerns appropriately and involve physician colleagues when indicated.Work collaboratively with healthcare providers, care coordinators, and community resources to ensure continuity of care.1:4 call coverage Documentation & Compliance Accurately document patient encounters, treatment plans, and clinical outcomes within the electronic medical record (EMR).Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA regulations and InterMed policies.Adhere to organizational policies, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements. Professional Development & Organizational Participation Participate in quality improvement initiatives and organizational committees.Attend a minimum of:Two (2) of three (3) annual NP/PA Whole Group MeetingsSeventy-five percent (75%) of department-specific meetingsContributes to a positive team culture that reflects InterMed's mission, vision, and values.Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives. Qualifications 3+ years of experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)Current certification as a CNM; Current unencumbered licensure to practice as a CNM in the state of Maine. Active DEA/BLSDemonstrated commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care, midwifery best practices.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.Commitment to advancing organizational and departmental strategic goals through quality improvement, patient access initiatives, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation in care delivery.Experience with prenatal, labor and delivery, postpartum, and gynecological care preferred.Interest or experience in Centering Pregnancy® group prenatal care is a plus.
