Under the direction and supervision of the assigned area, continuously assist professional nursing personnel in providing patient care. Directly responsible for providing specified services for patients under the direction and supervision of the charge nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and comply with Franklin Medical Center (FMC) rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain good working relationships, confidentiality, patient privacy, and professional conduct.
  • Follow dress code, maintain good attendance, and keep health records current.
  • Stay up-to-date in the field of nursing by attending in-service training, monthly staff meetings, and seminars.
  • Assist with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients, including collecting data, taking vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Provide personal care to patients, including a.m. and p.m. care, assisting with meals, ambulating patients, and maintaining cleanliness of rooms.
  • Collect and label specimens (sputum, stool, urine, vomitus) for lab exams and monitor patient conditions, reporting significant observations to the charge nurse.
  • Record intake and output, take vital signs, and measure and record weights with 100% accuracy.
  • Run in-house errands for patients and staff as requested by the nurse.
  • Administer simple treatments under the direction of a nurse, including enemas and catheter care.
  • Stay knowledgeable about assigned patients by attending shift reports and discussing care with the charge nurse.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the service area, including utility rooms and equipment.
  • Check equipment for malfunctions and report needed repairs to the charge nurse.
  • Organize work, assemble equipment, and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Perform other related non-professional nursing duties and rotate to other areas when requested.
  • Act ethically and within scope of practice, adhering to facility policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Completion of a course for nursing assistants.
  • Up-to-date CPR certification.
  • Ability to read, understand printed material, and follow written instructions.
  • Ability to express thoughts and ideas in writing.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift weights over 25 lbs., including lifting, moving, or helping to lift patients of awkward weights.
  • Perform repeated bending, stooping, squatting, and occasional pushing and pulling movements.
  • Prolonged walking and standing.
  • Frequent interruptions.
  • Visual and hearing acuity, as well as cognitive function, to make observations and communicate them to other staff.

OSHA Exposure Category: A (Exposure to bloodborne pathogens).
