About the Role

The Certified Medication Assistant (CMA) / Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a dual-certified role responsible for providing high-quality resident care. This position ensures the safe and accurate assistance of medications under the direction of a nurse, while also providing direct, hands-on support with activities of daily living to promote dignity, independence, and overall well-being. The CMA/CNA collaborates closely with nursing and caregiving teams to support a person-centered care environment.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of the Nurse, assists with medication and provides treatments according to physician’s orders and in accordance with facility policy. Provides, completes, and documents assigned tasks timely and accurately.
• Maintains resident rooms in a clean and orderly manner by providing light housekeeping, changing linen, making beds, putting away clothing and personal effects, tidying bedside tables, shelves, closets, and cleaning bathrooms.
• Provides direct care and assistance with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, mobility, and feeding.
• Assists residents with transfers, ambulation, and supportive devices using proper safety techniques.
• Attends and participates in facility meetings and in-service training programs.
• Practices good infection control techniques in all aspects of resident care.
• Prepares residents for meals, assists with serving meals, and feeds residents as needed.
• Observes residents’ rights including privacy and dignity.
• Observes residents and promptly reports changes in condition, behavior, or functional status.
• Safeguards the resident’s privacy and property.
• Participates in the orientation of new or temporary staff to the unit to assure continuity in the delivery of resident care.
• Promotes positive public relations with residents, family members, and guests.
• Provides restorative care to residents as assigned by the Nurse or as indicated in the overall plan of care.
• Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers.
• Must be able to give clear and concise direction to staff and others.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (required).
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certifications (required).
• CPR certification (preferred).
• 0-1 years of experience.

Skills

• Ability to communicate effectively with residents and healthcare professionals.
• Knowledge of various medications, their purposes, dosages, routes of administration, and potential side effects.
• Knowledge of privacy regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Record-keeping skills to document medication administration and patient responses accurately.
• Ability to educate patients about their medications.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, sit, talk, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to operate various equipment based on department needs.
• Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., machinery alarms, medical codes or alarms) in person, via telephone, and other remote methods.
• Clarity of vision for near visual acuity (e.g., working with small objects or reading small print, including computer use).
• Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more to recognize features.
• Peripheral vision to observe an area up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $19.13 - $25.43 per hour. Factors considered in determining the actual offered rate include job-related qualifications, experience, skills, education, geographic location, and internal and external equity.
