About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support and performing basic direct patient care activities within Student Health Services.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule initial and follow-up appointments and answer questions via phone, in person, and email
  • Assist with patient check-in, guiding students to complete necessary paperwork and to access their Student Health Portal
  • Prepare patients for examinations (including vital signs, allergies, current medications, take medical history)
  • Absorb and prepare for minor procedures, gather supplies and equipment, apply aseptic dressings, open supplies, etc.
  • Collect and prepare lab specimens and complete associated paperwork, forms, and documentation to expedite laboratory studies with accuracy and efficiency
  • Create, update, and maintain patient medical records
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a licensed provider (e.g., a nurse practitioner or physician assistant)
  • Perform clinical procedures, such as venipuncture for blood collection, administration of immunizations (e.g., influenza vaccines), and placement and reading of tuberculosis (TB) skin tests in accordance with established protocols and safety standards
  • Absorb and verify immunization compliance and answer questions related to required health information for incoming students

  • Maintain proficiency with computer programs: Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office software
  • Maintain confidentiality of information as appropriate
  • Must possess excellent organization and efficiency skills
  • Must be able to work in a college environment with students of diverse backgrounds and perspective
  • The ability to uphold human dignity and respect by recognizing each person’s worth, valuing diverse perspectives, and treating others with kindness, fairness, and empathy
  • Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the University’s Catholic and Jesuit mission

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program and current CMA certification required
  • Preferred Education: Minimum Job Experience Requirements: Requires prior experience as a certified medical assistant
  • Preferred Qualifications: Years of Experience: 0

Schedule

This is a part-time position scheduled for up to 25 hours per week, 10 months out of each year. We offer a flexible work schedule, with days and hours determined in collaboration with the successful candidate and department needs.
