About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant is accountable for assisting the providers in front and back-office procedures. The incumbent has the added responsibility of providing a direct liaison between provider and patient, making certain that the appropriate provider has addressed any patient questions or concerns. This position may float to various sites within the health system.

Responsibilities

  • Escort the patient from the waiting room to the examination room promptly
  • Take vital signs as per guidelines
  • Maintain examination rooms' stock
  • Document all patient communications
  • Prepare lab specimens for processing
  • Complete the necessary referral forms and obtain authorizations for referrals and keep records of same
  • Schedule patients for tests
  • Place and receive phone calls in order of importance and file into patient charts to become part of the permanent record
  • Administer treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies
  • Assist with the tracking and coordination of patient test results
  • Remind patients of overdue health maintenance topics
  • Assist other members of the Medical Home Care Team in delivering optimal patient-centered care

Requirements

  • Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or Certified Laboratory Assistant or an application must be submitted within 90 days of employment (excludes departments: 200279, 200280, 200282, 200305, 200317, 200386, 200399, 200410, 200415, 515316, 515317, 530279, 530285, 530288, 530308, 530317, 530367, 530396, 530399)
  • AHA BLS certification required within 90 days
  • One of the following certifications required at time of hire: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), State of Nevada EMT certification (basic, advanced, paramedic)
  • Computer / Typing skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.

Qualifications

This position provides patient care. The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meet the standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standard. The incumbent uses professionalism and diplomacy with interacting with patients of all ages, their families, physicians, physician office staff and other health care providers in the accurate collecting of demographic, clinical and financial information in person or via telephone interviews. This position will keep abreast of all standards to assure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies including third party reimbursement requirements.
