About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant is accountable for assisting the providers in front and back-office procedures. The incumbent has the added responsibility of providing a direct liaison between provider and patient, making certain that the appropriate provider has addressed any patient questions or concerns. This position may float to various sites within the health system.

Responsibilities

• Escort the patient from the waiting room to the examination room promptly
• Take vital signs as per guidelines
• Maintain examination rooms' stock
• Document all patient communications
• Prepare lab specimens for processing
• Complete the necessary referral forms and obtain authorizations for referrals and keep records of same
• Schedule patients for tests
• Place and receive phone calls in order of importance and file into patient charts to become part of the permanent record
• Administer treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies
• Fit casts, splints, and braces to ensure maximum comfort and avoid unnecessary pressures
• Trim, split, remove casts as required
• Adjust braces to physician specification
• Perform documentation and patient education related to cast, splints, or braces
• Provide cast care and brace instructions
• Fit and instruct on crutches and other mobilization aids
• Prepare, stock, and clean exam rooms per MA requirements
• Stock exam rooms, inventory specialty items, and initiate reorder of supplies as needed
• Maintain tools and equipment
• Setup fluoroscopy machine for care provider use
• Contact vendors about brace orders
• Cook with patients to assist in completing workups
• Complete forms prior to physician review
• Aid in operating room, inpatient units, and emergency room
• Aid physician with application of splints, casts, and braces as needed
• Modify or split casts as needed
• Instruct patients on cast care, brace/splint application, and care

Requirements

• Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or Certified Laboratory Assistant or an application must be submitted within 90 days of employment (excludes departments: 200279, 200280, 200282, 200305, 200317, 200386, 200399, 200410, 200415, 515316, 515317, 530279, 530285, 530288, 530308, 530317, 530367, 530396, 530399)
• Current AHA BLS required within 90 days
• One of the following certifications required at time of hire: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – issued by National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) – issued by American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – issued by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – issued by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – issued by National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – issued by American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Allied Health Association (AAH), National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) State of Nevada EMT certification – (basic, advanced, paramedic)
• Ability to obtain and maintain one of the following certifications required at time of hire: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – issued by National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) – issued by American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – issued by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – issued by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – issued by National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – issued by American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Allied Health Association (AAH), National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) State of Nevada EMT certification – (basic, advanced, paramedic)
• Computer / Typing Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
