About the role

A multi-skilled role dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice, including administrative and clinical procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed physician and Office Manager or Team Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service and greet patients entering the department/practice.
  • Receive and direct messages (electronic, in person, and telephone calls) to the appropriate personnel.
  • Make contacts with other departments, physicians, patients, and outside organizations as necessary for departmental/practice operations.
  • Maintain patient scheduling functions and set patient appointments through established guidelines.
  • Interview and complete the registration process for patients utilizing the specific service.
  • Key patient dispositions, diagnostic codes, patient orders, charges, and payments as defined in the electronic medical record.
  • Perform cashiering functions related to co-payments or other patient payments/collections.
  • Perform routine clerical duties for the department.
  • Perform venipuncture and administer routine, non-controlled medications under direct supervision.
  • Administer medication as directed by a licensed physician.
  • Collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by the provider.
  • Perform basic laboratory procedures, including aseptic procedures and taking patient’s vital signs.
  • Provide excellent customer service for patients, families, representatives, and other members of the treatment team.

Requirements

  • 1 year of Medical Assistant experience preferred.
  • 2 years of clerical/customer service experience, ideally in a healthcare-related industry, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience with third-party payors and computer data entry preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association) required at time of hire.
  • Medical Terminology Certificate preferred within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of an MA program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, a national or state medical association, or an agency approved by the board.
