Responsibilities
- Obtains appropriate patient medical history necessary to perform diagnostic procedures as ordered (radiology, laboratory, audiometry, spirometry).
- Performs proper patient/specimen identification and obtains/labels specimens according to policy.
- Performs patient intake, documents patient care, and collects data appropriately in patient records.
- Assists physician/provider with patient exams, including patient positioning, specimen collection, non-invasive procedures, and general patient support.
- Performs invasive procedures under direct supervision of clinic physician/provider.
- Obtains blood specimens via venous puncture for patients of all ages while adhering to universal precautions.
- Retrieves test results and clinical documents, populating lab results into flow sheets accurately and timely.
- Maintains quality and safety compliance of lab equipment and verifies accurate handling of lab samples.
- Ensures superior ongoing patient satisfaction and customer service through effective communication.
- Maintains professional standards, continuing education, and a safe/clean environment.
- Practices fiscal responsibility, monitors supply stock, and assists with scheduling/reception as needed.
- Complies with hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program, including Code of Conduct, laws, regulations, and policies.
- May be required to work in other clinic environments based on staffing and patient needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Medical Assistant Certification (CMA).
- Current CPR certification (see Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy).
- One year of Medical Assistant experience preferred.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Must be free from governmental sanctions involving healthcare and/or financial practices.
