PRIMARY FUNCTION
To inspect, repair, replace, install, adjust, modify and completely maintain all mechanical equipment in a major producing unit or assigned area.
WORKING PROCEDURES
- Receives instructions/direction from Mechanic Lead or Supervisor covering the scheduled, emergency repair, installation and inspection work to be done.
- Determines and obtains parts, materials and tools required and carries to work site.
- Instructs apprentices or Mechanics No 2.
- Fills out requisitions, time cards, completes work orders, etc.
- Diagnose complex mechanical problems.
- Have computer skills for operation/troubleshooting equipment and machinery throughout plant.
- Performs complex mechanical tasks – includes dismantle, clean, paint, repair, fabricate, assemble, etc.: shop function – Equipment breakdown: Equipment preventative maintenance – Facility breakdown – Facility preventive maintenance.
- Interprets manufacturer manuals/blueprints/layouts/etc.
- Diagnose and repairs mechanical problems on powered materials handling equipment: Pallet jacks – Lift trucks (electric & LPG) Beam handling trucks – Cloth doffing trucks – Etc.
- Maintains repair records on powered materials handling equipment.
- Schedules and assists with routine battery washing and maintenance.
- Orders powered materials handling equipment parts and maintains repair shop parts inventory.
- Performs carpenter functions such as fabrication or repair of cabinets, floors, etc.
- Performs plumbing functions such as repair and rebuild/replace existing or new air lines, water lines, and steam lines (steel, plastic, copper, aluminum, and PVC).
- Starts up, shuts down, and troubleshoots boilers, air compressors, and refrigeration equipment.
- Troubleshoots and repairs or rebuilds various types of pneumatic and hydraulic pumps.
- Fabricates sheet metal, steel, wood, etc. for modification of existing and new equipment.
- Inspects equipment for misalignment, wear, lubrication, etc.
- Adjusts equipment to proper specification/tolerance.
- Installs/assembles new equipment.
- Dismantles/skids equipment for storage or relocation.
- Installs relocated equipment.
- Erects scaffolds and rigging.
- Operates powered equipment – pallets jacks, lift trucks, personnel lifts, etc.
- Subject to emergency call-in at any time.
- Participates in on-site and off-site training as offered.
- Performs all work per safety/personnel protection/equipment lockout procedure/etc. requirements.
- Dispose of waste/old parts/packaging/etc per Plant environmental and recycling procedures.
- Maintains shop area housekeeping.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
MANDATORY
- Must have high school diploma or GED.
- Must have a valid industrial Mechanical Certificate from CVCC or equivalent.
- Weekend work is required when demand necessitates.
