About the role
The City of Tukwila is seeking experienced law enforcement officers who meet all criteria for Certified Entry. Only those meeting these criteria can apply. For those not currently certified or lacking the required experience, please apply for the Entry-Level Police Officer Exam process, which requires a separate application.
Responsibilities
- Performs investigative tasks, evaluates cases, collects and preserves evidence, interrogates suspects, and questions witnesses.
- Enforces traffic and parking regulations, directs traffic, investigates traffic accidents, and determines when searches, seizures, and arrests should be attempted.
- Assists in departmental administrative and supervisory activities, performs public relations assignments, operates firearms, cleans and maintains firearms and vehicles, patrols designated areas, assists in special details, writes reports, completes warrants, makes arrests, transports prisoners, responds to citizen complaints, and represents the department at public meetings.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years or older at time of employment.
- Must have been employed as a full-time commissioned law enforcement officer and successfully completed a recognized police training academy or equivalent training and experience necessary to become certified through WSCJTC.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Washington State driver’s license without any record of suspension or revocation in any state.
- Must read and write the English language.
- Felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories are not allowed.
- Must be able to pass a medical exam.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized police training academy or equivalent courses necessary to become certified through WSCJTC.

- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Schedule
Officers have a set schedule with the same weekdays off and every other Saturday off, 490 hours of leave per year, the ability to work out on-duty, and a supportive environment to help them grow throughout their careers.
