Job Duties
- Provides presence, comfort, and spiritual support to patients, families, visitors, and staff during emergent calls, including crisis and death, as well as routinely on assigned units and as needed.
- Facilitates decedent care administrative responsibilities with families and staff following patient deaths as required by location.
- Captures and coordinates interfaith rituals and services as requested by hospital leadership.
- Maintains collegial ministry relationships including the interdisciplinary team and spiritual care team.
- Provides mentorship to new spiritual care staff and/or CPE students, as well as supports the CPE program by participating consultation on CPE student performance, providing didactics in class, and acting as a preceptor to CPE students.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Knowledge of different philosophical systems and religions and ability to be conversant in ethical dialogue.
- Working knowledge of psychological and sociological disciplines.
- Ability to provide spiritual care and support to a diverse population.
- Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of information.
- Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals.
