Certified Athletic Trainer, Olympic Sport - UMKC's Kansas City Athletics

About the role

Kansas City Athletics is seeking an experienced Certified Athletic Trainer to join our team. UMKC is a NCAA Division I University competing in the Summit League. The primary sport responsibility will be an Olympic Sport (women’s soccer, softball, and cross/track and field).

Responsibilities

• Assist with operation of sports medicine facilities.
• Provide daily treatment and rehabilitation of student-athletes, focusing on an Olympic Sport.
• Prepare and maintain various records, reports, and information on injuries, treatments, etc., for insurance, legal, and professional purposes.
• Attend scheduled team practices and competitions, including home and away events for both fall and spring seasons.
• Communicate with team physicians, supervisors, coaches, and extended medical staff to ensure proper evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured student-athletes.
• Communicate effectively with coaches/administrators/student-athletes regarding injuries and playing status.
• Collaborate effectively with performance staff, nutrition, mental health, and coaching staff to support a holistic, high-performance model for an Olympic Sport.
• Aid in coverage, treatment, and rehab as schedule allows with other university sports.
• Remain current on all state and national requirements for certification and license renewal.
• Perform all other duties and special projects as requested and assigned by the Athletic Director, Deputy Athletic Director for Internal Operations, and/or Head Athletic Trainer.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
• Certification and licensures as required by state laws.

Qualifications

• BOC Certification, along with eligibility for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Missouri are required.
• Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, BLS Provider, or equivalent is required.
• Master’s degree in athletic training or related field.
• Experience working with collegiate athletes and/or Olympic Sport sports.
• Knowledgeable about evidence-based best practice guidelines as well as current trends in sports medicine.
• Certification or experience with manual therapy techniques.
• Experience as a preceptor for a CAATE-Accredited Athletic Training Program.
• Demonstrated leadership experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and sports medicine standards of care, ability to apply NATA/BOC code of ethics to care, excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills, and a strong commitment to professional growth.
• Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.
• Experience working in a comprehensive sports medicine environment.

Skills

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as starting at $53,976. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
