Collins Aerospace in Rockford, IL specializes in assembling Ram Air Turbines (RAT) used for aircraft emergency power generation. Our Ram Air Turbines have been used to save aircraft and over 2,600 lives.

About the role

This onsite position involves the assembly, inspection, disassembly, reassembly, safety wiring, part marking, painting, and repair of sub and final assemblies for aerospace applications. The role requires maintaining quality stamp authority, completing necessary documentation, and adhering to written instructions such as route cards, job instruction sheets (J.I.S.), engineering drawings, or work orders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assembly, inspection, disassembly, reassembly, safety wiring, part marking, painting, and repair of sub and final assemblies.
  • Maintain quality stamp authority and complete required documents and records.
  • Follow written instructions (e.g., route cards, job instruction sheets, engineering drawings, or work orders) and use engineering prints for problem analysis.
  • Demonstrate general knowledge of the operation/function of assemblies to troubleshoot units.
  • Operate departmental machinery, equipment, tooling, or gauging as required, including machine brazing, soldering, and balancing.
  • Identify processing changes and method improvements.
  • Verify current instrumentation calibration and department records (e.g., torque wrenches, inch micrometers, gages).
  • Work closely with supervision, Engineering, suppliers, and other personnel to resolve problems.
  • Interface with customer or government personnel as required.
  • Use inspection equipment to perform visual and/or dimensional inspections of in-process sub-assemblies, assemblies, and piece parts to ensure conformity to blueprints, job instruction sheets, test specifications, and engineering specifications.
  • Perform and monitor assembly test set-ups and verify equipment calibrations.
  • Verify job instruction sheets, blueprints, or specifications are at the required revision.
  • Perform environmental checks (e.g., temperature, humidity) and maintain cleanliness of the work area.
  • Verify proper incorporation of engineering changes as required by the manufacturing process plan.
  • Calculate fractions and decimals and apply shop mathematics.
  • Monitor department process equipment for acceptance of fluid and gas conditions, temperature, and other operating parameters.
  • Maintain program and process certifications as needed.
  • Print process manufacturing documentation as required.
  • Understand hazardous materials used within assembly and proper handling practices.
  • Mix and apply chemical compounds (e.g., adhesives, paints, Loctites).
  • Assist supervision with department administrative tasks (e.g., ordering shop supplies, tools, calibration recall, shelf life of material).
  • Maintain records of material accepted or rejected.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • 3-4 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • A&P License.
  • Experience with hand tools.
  • Experience with calibration and/or maintenance.
  • Previous experience in aviation or aerospace assembly.
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience.

Schedule

1st Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $40.16 - $45.15 per hour. The salary provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
