Certification Engineer

About the role

The Certification Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring that Industrial Scientific's products meet regulatory standards and are safely deployed worldwide. Reporting directly to the Manager, Certification & Sensors, this individual is responsible for coordinating the certification process, collaborating with third-party certification bodies, and supporting the global design team in obtaining necessary approvals.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate all aspects of the certification process within ISC
• Participate in cross-functional team meetings and design reviews
• Work with third-party certification bodies such as UL, CSA, MSHA, and DEKRA
• Resolve certification-related technical support questions and internal customer requests
• Maintain and update certifications for ISC products
• Support standards development activities relevant to ISC products
• Support the global design team in receiving agency approvals
• Develop and update technical documentation for certification bodies
• Conduct quarterly certification audits both internally and externally
• Travel to certification locations to assist in certification completion (less than 10%)

Qualifications

• Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Strong experience using solder equipment and mechanical tools
• Familiarity with hazardous locations standards and wireless communication protocols
• Experience with gas detection instrumentation and simulation tools
• Understanding of Stage-Gate and Agile development processes

Skills & Work Traits

• Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent experience
• Experience with Intrinsically Safe Hazardous Environments
• Knowledge of relevant standards and certifications
• Experience with wireless communication protocols
• Experience with gas detection instrumentation
• Experience with simulation tools and electronic lab equipment
