About the Role

The Central Sterile Supervisor oversees the entire range of reprocessing services for Gritman Medical Center, ensuring operations comply with all regulatory agency standards. This role involves ongoing hiring, training, and supervision of staff, requiring extensive knowledge of instrumentation, equipment, and techniques.

Requirements

  • Current CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician), CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician), or CER Certification.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a surgical environment preferred, with progressively increasing responsibility.
  • One year of managerial experience preferred.
  • Ability to systematically evaluate technical processes and communicate them effectively to staff and customers.

Responsibilities

Quality & Service

  • Checks and records daily room temperatures and humidity; reports out-of-range values to engineering and the department director.
  • Processes all contaminated instruments and endoscopes according to recommended standards.
  • Retrieves instruments/trays from departments (e.g., OB, ER, MSU) for reprocessing.
  • Uses sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items for sterilization.
  • Handles and cares for instruments, prepares trays, and ensures count sheets are accurate and signed.

Technology

  • Inspects autoclave units daily for visible signs of malfunction; notifies BioMed if issues are found.
  • Runs biological and chemical tests at the start of each shift; records results in the appropriate log.

People

  • Trains new employees using department skills and competency checklists to ensure optimal performance.
  • Applies aseptic technique in daily work assignments.

Finance

  • Rotates sterile supplies to ensure oldest items are used first.
  • Manages inventory control, including ordering supplies and conducting yearly (or as-needed) inventories.
  • Uses supplies economically and assists in identifying worn or damaged equipment.

Performance Improvement

  • Maintains current knowledge of professional techniques and practices.
  • Actively participates in unit meetings and educational programs.
  • Reviews MSDS book and all hospital/department policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Reports to work on time and completes tasks in a timely manner.
